Purpose and Value!

We are conducting a national study exploring how clinicians in the UK deliver and experience psychosocial interventions in the treatment of Substance Use Disorders (SUD).

Psychosocial approaches, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing, are central to treatment recommendations, yet there is limited research on how they are applied in everyday practice in the UK.

By learning from clinicians directly, this study aims to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for improving care.

Help shape the future
of Addiction treatment.

We’re inviting all UK clinicians working in substance use services
to share their knowledge and experiences with psychosocial interventions.
By completing a short 5 minutes survey, you will help us to understand
current practice, challenges, and opportunities to improve care.

Understanding

Understand which interventions are most commonly used in UK services

Exploring

Explore how training, experience, and professional background influence practice.

Examining

Examine how clinical guidelines, such as the NICE "Orange Book" are adopted in practice.

Highlighting

Highlight the barriers and the facilitators that affect implementation.

How to get involved

We are inviting clinicians who are currently working, or have worked within the last five years, in substance use treatment services in the UK. This includes psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, counsellors, key workers, and other professionals delivering psychotherapeutic interventions.

Involvement includes completing a short online survey (approximately 5 minutes). Some individuals may also be invited to take part in a follow-up interview (approximately 60 minutes) to discuss their experiences in more depth.

All responses are anonymous and confidential. The research has been approved by Middlesex University Research Ethics Committee.
